A last minute post to make sure everyone knows about the possibilities to play in the earth and roots this weekend…
Saturday October 26 12-4pm is our last official outdoor event at Aberthau in West Point Grey.
Our weather looks promising, and much conspiring has happened with musician /wheat weaver Brian Jones, dancer/choreographer Mirae Rosner and myself. I can’t wait!
Weed Weaving and Soil Sculpture Installation!
Participate sculpting the sandy soil at Aberthau and weaving end of season green-waste
into a winter labyrinth installation.
Through dance, music, digging and soil sculpting
a collaborative maze will be created.
At the heart of the maze shall rest flax woven seed offerings ensuring a good crop for 2014.
This multi-disciplinary celebration will be documented by Martin Borden as a part of our web-based archive.

Behind the house in the flax plot!
Sunday the 27th is the end of Britannia Community Centre’s Sustaining our World festival, and the Urban weavers shall be out in force!
Todd Devries and Joy Witsche will be leading a drop in weavers circle for weaving spiders with english ivy. the “spider” is the starting point to any twined basket. so if you are curious to learn about weaving, this is a great time to begin!
Martin Borden will be demonstrating processing our locally grown flax into linen fiber ready for spinning and have a dye pot on the go from some of this years park board annual plantings just pulled out of the Stanley Park Rose Garden.
I will be hosting a workshop on green costume and disguise; we will begin the making of head dresses or neck adornment ready to go for Halloween! this is a free workshop, but registration is nec. click here to register and safe your spot. We will be using lots of various plants gathered over the season- including some of the big bannana leaves from MOP!
All of the weaver events are free and going on from 1-4pm in Gym D at Britannia Centre
the festival is running from 12-5pm, hope to see you there!
